Con­fer­ence Hosted By Lo­cal Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional

Lo­cal ser­vice or­ga­ni­za­tion Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional of Oak­dale is spon­sor­ing a “Dream It, Be It” con­fer­ence for sev­enth through tenth grade girls who re­side in Oak­dale. The free con­fer­ence will be held on Satur­day, Oct. 21 at Oak­dale High School’s li­brary from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Break­fast and lunch will be pro­vided. Gaby Ceja, Oak­dale’s Distin­guished Young Woman, will serve as key­note speaker. The con­fer­ence will pro­vide girls with ac­cess to pro­fes­sional role mod­els, ed­u­ca­tion, and re­sources to live their dreams. Ses­sions will in­clude in­ter­ac­tive pre­sen­ta­tions on dis­cov­er­ing your dreams, set­ting and achiev­ing goals, turn­ing fail­ure into suc­cess, and bal­anc­ing stress. There will also be an In­ter­net safety pre­sen­ta­tion.

Dream It, Be It joins with the long-run­ning Live Your Dream: Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing Awards for Women to cre­ate the “Sorop­ti­mist Dream Pro­grams,” which pro­vide sus­tain­able, mea­sur­able change for women and girls, and en­sure they have ac­cess to the ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing needed to reach their full po­ten­tial and live their dreams. The Live Your Dream Awards as­sist women by giv­ing them the re­sources they need to im­prove their ed­u­ca­tion, skills, and job prospects.

Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional of Oak­dale is part of Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional of the Amer­i­cas, a causere­lated phil­an­thropic fed­er­a­tion of clubs im­prov­ing the lives of women and girls through so­cial and eco­nomic em­pow­er­ment. The Oak­dale Soropt­mists join 1,300 Sorop­ti­mist clubs in 20 coun­tries and ter­ri­to­ries that em­power women and girls through vol­un­teer projects, such as cash grants for ed­u­ca­tion, hands-on ef­forts to end do­mes­tic vi­o­lence, ca­reer men­tor­ing for girls, women’s health ini­tia­tives and many other com­mu­ni­ty­based projects.

Fol­low­ing the Dream It, Be It cur­ricu­lum, the Dream Pil­lows ac­tiv­ity pro­vides the op­por­tu­nity for par­tic­i­pants to write their dreams and as­pi­ra­tions on note cards and in­sert them inside their pil­lows to take home and place on their beds.
