Ten­nis Girls Split Matches In VOL Ac­tion

On Thurs­day, Sept. 28 the Oak­dale girls ten­nis team snapped its three game skid with an 8-1 home win over We­ston Ranch. Prior to that vic­tory the girls had dropped three straight Val­ley Oak League matches, in­clud­ing a 9-0 road loss on Tues­day, Sept. 26 to Man­teca.

“It was a tough stretch of games for us. Those teams are re­ally good and it was a chal­lenge for us,” said head coach Judy Ve­jar.

Dur­ing that stretch they lost to Sierra, Cen­tral Catholic and Man­teca.

In sin­gles ac­tion against We­ston Ranch, ev­ery­one got back into the win col­umn as Li­jan Bacud did not give up a sin­gle point to Kar­man Basra in a bat­tle of the two num­ber ones. Bacud won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Tayla Barry made short work of Jes­meen Kaur 6-0, 6-1. Maken­zie Brown earned a hard fought vic­tory over Carly Burks 6-4, 6-1. Tavin Barry de­feated Jus­tice Still 6-0, 6-3; Bre­anna Mor­gan earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elaine Pasqueal; and Ken­dra Branch de­feated An­gele Rivera 6-0, 6-2 in sin­gles ac­tion.

Oak­dale took two of three matches in dou­bles over the vis­it­ing Cougars. The team of Shan­nen Yang and Car­lie Rari­den won 6-4, 6-2 and Me­gan Pier­son and Al­li­son Koel­mans also won 6-1, 6-0. The team of Paige Mor­gan and Sa­van­nah Gustafson fell 6-3, 2-6, 11-13.

The girls trav­eled to Tracy on Tues­day, Oct. 3 to take on Kim­ball. The match was held fol­low­ing The Leader press time. Oak­dale will be on the road against East Union on Thurs­day, Oct. 5 with a sched­uled time of 3:30 p.m. The team re­turns home on Tues­day, Oct. 10 against Lathrop; that match is also sched­uled for 3:30 p.m.
