The Oakdale Leader - - NEWS -

In two years, there will not be enough funding to pay for fire protection in Knights Ferry and Valley Home. This is a major concern for the Citizens Unite meeting attendees as they are looking into possible solutions such as creating another volunteer fire department and finding more funding to keep our fire departments open. This is a very important issue to be passionate about early in the game as these kinds of changes do not happen overnight. We would hate to be without a fire department in two years! Come to the meetings to get involved. Mark your calendar, next meeting is November 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Club.

***** The Knights Ferry kindergarten class has been learning about community helpers and soon will explore the past in their classroom studies. Last Friday, all the kindergarteners dressed up as community helpers. I personally got to see Jocelyn Schlicht dressed as a smart veterinarian, Avignon Poncabare dressed as a brave fireman, and even Miss Aimee dressed as a busy nurse! Mrs. McCarthy planned a field trip downtown to the Miller’s Hall Museum and the Post Office. In the Post Office, the class of 26 students split into groups to learn about post marking mail with Post Mistress Dolly Haskell and complete a bingo game card while looking for antique versions of the modern items they use today in the museum, but I’m sure the highlight of the trip for some kindergarteners was eating a scoop of ice cream from the Knights Ferry Creamery!

Knights Ferry kindergarten class is a busy class this year. Welcome Huxley AlomiaHiggins, Albie Bardini-Davis, Allison Blanc, Colton Camara, Violet Esteves, Grace Feezell, Jak Gardner, Shelby Jackman, Luke Martinelli, Jacelyn McDonald, John Merritt, Demi Moore, James Neely, Avignon Poncabare, Jocelyn Schlicht, Zoie Vierra, and Liam Voortman!

***** Knights Ferry School was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ryan Verkaik. His fellow eighth grade friends plan to do something in memory of Ryan on campus. The students at Knights Ferry School were touched by Ryan’s story and are better people because of him. If you would like to attend, Ryan’s services are Wednesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Monte Vista Chapel in Turlock. My thoughts and prayers are with the Verkaik family at this time.

***** Love Knights Ferry is coming up very soon. The weather is looking like perfect fall weather to get out and tidy up the town. Please bring rakes, outdoor brooms, cobweb dusters, wheelbarrows, garbage pickers, gloves, and anything else you think might help out! There will be donuts and coffee available.

***** Happy 91st birthday Merna Jergentz!
