KNIGHTS FERRY NEWS
It was a gorgeous day in Knights Ferry for the Pumpkin Roll! There wasn’t an empty inch on Main Street except where the chalked lines drew the pumpkin rolling arena as people enjoyed the booths and the delicious food around town. There was a variety of booths in the Community Club. My favorite items for sale were the steam punk type hats, aprons, and hand-crafted wood toys. It is difficult to describe the excitement during the Pumpkin Roll unless you’re standing on the sidelines watching a pumpkin slowly creep toward a white chalk line and stop within inches or slowly take a turn toward the river and roll out of bounds! Not only does the winner claim bragging rights but they get their very own trophy and the title of Pumpkin Roll Champion of the World! Congratulations to all the 2017 Pumpkin Roll Champions in each age category: Girls 0-5: Mallory Penaranda, Boys 0-5: Joseph Meyer, Girls 6-12: Ella Madru, Boys 6-12: Reid Grandstaff, Senior Women: Josephine Burrell, Senior Men: Rick Maisel, Teen Girls: Breanna Banks, Teen Boys: Miles Carbaat, Women: Nellie Ashton, Men: Eric Sinkevich.
If you missed this year, mark your 2018 calendars for the first Sunday after Halloween to come out for the 55th annual Pumpkin Roll!
Knights Ferry School visited Valley Home School on Friday for flag football and volleyball games. Sadly, the Bobcats were denied a win in either sport that day! The day was still a good time visiting friends at another school.
The school is setting up a giving tree in the office for local families in need at this time. This is an anonymous assistance program but the needs will be specific to each family. They might need a Christmas gift or even a new skillet to cook dinner. If you are interested in providing a few items for a local family, please drop by the school to pick up a tag or call the school at 881-3382.
The Community Club is planning a Christmas dinner the first Thursday of the December at 6:30 p.m. The Club will provide the main dishes; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, and rolls. Families with last names beginning with A-M should bring a side dish and those with last names beginning with N-Z should bring a dessert. Everyone is invited to attend.
