The 30th annual Toyota/ Save Mart 350 this past weekend in Sonoma was dominated by Martin Truex Jr. and his #78 Furniture Row Toyota. Truex had qualified second and quickly marched to the front of the field, as pole sitter Kyle Larson faltered and fell off the pace. Larson had qualified number one with his DC Solar Chevrolet, but could not keep pace on race day, finishing 14th.

Kevin Harvick and his Mobil 1 Ford were the only real threat to Truex, leading 25 laps. But Harvick could not hold off Truex, as excessive tire wear hindered his efforts throughout the 110-lap race, even though he was able to turn in the faster lap. Truex utilized a smooth consistency throughout the event to capture the checkered flag by a 10.513 second margin. Truex has now won two events this season, having won the event in Fontana, California earlier in the season. The win also is the 18th NASCAR Monster Energy Series event victory of his career. He was the 2017 NASCAR Monster Energy Drink Series Champion last season, having won eight races in that year.

Harvick finished second in his #4 Mobil 1 Chevrolet. Clint Boyer in his #14 One Cure Ford captured third, followed by Chase Elliot in the #9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet and Kyle Busch in the #18 M&M’s Caramel Toyota. Both of the Busch brothers had a good race day, as Kurt Busch finished sixth in his #41 Haas Automation Ford. The average speed of the event was 82.882 mph, with the 110-lap race being completed in two hours, 38 minutes and 29 seconds.

The next event on the NASCAR Monster Energy Drink Series schedule is on July 1 at Chicagoland Speedway.
