Ten­nis Team Plays In Pair Of Scrim­mages

Get­ting out on the court, mem­bers of the Oak­dale High School girls ten­nis team saw ac­tion in two scrim­mages against non­con­fer­ence op­po­nents. On Tuesday, Aug. 21 the girls trav­eled to Pacheco and on Thurs­day, Aug. 23 the girls hosted Tur­lock.

The team has three dec­o­rated se­niors on it as Li­jian Bacud, McKen­zie Brown and Shan­nen Yang all enter their fi­nal sea­sons. Yang has played all four years and Bacud and Brown have each played three. All three play­ers are sin­gles play­ers.

Ex­pe­ri­ence con­tin­ues to grow in the pro­gram. The Lady Mus­tangs have a trio of ju­niors with ex­pe­ri­ence as Tayla Barry, Ken­dra Branch and Jes­sica Gar­cia are re­turn­ing to the team. Barry has played three years and both Branch and Gar­cia are en­ter­ing their sec­ond. Branch also com­petes in cross coun­try dur­ing the fall.

In dou­bles, Oak­dale has a group of girls who play with high en­ergy and en­thu­si­asm. Paige Mor­gan, Sa­van­nah Gustafson, Jes­sica Jeri­coff, Kate­lyn Sig­norelli, Tanna Borba and Alyssa Jingco are all re­turn­ing to the pro­gram from last sea­son. New­com­ers to the team are Ni­cole Brunker, Mor­gan Gra­vatt and Ha­ley Gre­gory.

Oak­dale opened up Val­ley Oak League play on Tuesday, Aug. 28 on the road against East Union. The match was held fol­low­ing The Leader’s press time. Oak­dale will host Kim­ball on Thurs­day, Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. and fol­low up with an­other home set against Sierra on Thurs­day, Sept. 6.
