Week­end Drown­ing At Wood­ward Reser­voir

A La­bor Day drown­ing marred the long hol­i­day week­end in the lo­cal area.

The Stanis­laus County Sher­iff’s De­part­ment Dive Team re­cov­ered the body of a 26-year-old Sun­ny­vale man who drowned at Wood­ward Reser­voir on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Au­thor­i­ties said Vic­tor Sa­gas­tume-Men­ji­var had been swim­ming with fam­ily mem­bers near Area ‘U’ at the reser­voir on 26Mile Road north­west of Oak­dale when he was last seen at around 11:45 a.m. Mon­day, Sept. 3. Deputies were on scene with a boat within min­utes of get­ting the call, how­ever, were un­able to lo­cate Sa­gas­tume-Men­ji­var.

The Sher­iff’s De­part­ment Dive Team re­sponded to the reser­voir and lo­cated the body at around 5 p.m ., au­thor­i­ties said. Saga stu me Men­ji­varwa snot wear­ing a life vest and al­co­hol does not ap­pear to be a fac­tor.

Sher­iff ’s De­part­ment of­fi­cials said this was the first drown­ing at Wood­ward Reser­voir this year.
