Wa­ter Polo Girls Dive Into Ac­tion

The Oak­dale High School girls wa­ter polo team’s sea­son got un­der­way this past week­end as the girls headed south to Clo­vis for the Cen­tral Val­ley Show­down. In their three games Oak­dale went 1-2 (as of The Leader’s hol­i­day press time).

On Fri­day, Aug. 31 the girls took on Garces High School of Bak­ers­field in the open­ing round. Oak­dale fell short 5-4. Cam­ryn O’Neal had 14 saves for Oak­dale. Scor­ing the goals for the Lady Mus­tangs were Bethany Met­calfe, Mea­gan Humphrey, Danni Bench and Neesa DeLeon.

Later that day, Oak­dale took on Righetti High School and fell 12-3. O’Neal had 17 saves in the con­test and goals were scored by Han­nah Lee and Bethany Met­calfe scored two goals in the loss. Satur­day morn­ing Oak­dale bounced back with an 8-5 vic­tory over Whit­ney. No stats for that game were avail­able as of press time.

This week Oak­dale was sched­uled to host Rio Amer­i­cano on Tues­day, Sept. 4 and then will hit the road for a trio of games start­ing on Wed­nes­day, Sept. 5 when they travel to Napa to take on Vin­tage High School at 4 p.m.

The Oak­dale High School boys’ wa­ter polo be­gins their sea­son on Wed­nes­day, Sept. 5, also with a 4 p.m. start sched­uled at Vin­tage High School.
