Kayaking star to hold clinics at Riversport Rapids
Extreme kayaker Rafa Ortiz, who has successfully launched his kayak from a nearly 200-foot waterfall, will be sharing his skills during clinics Labor Day weekend at Riversport Rapids in Oklahoma City.
The Mexican kayaker is best known for his enormous waterfall drops and his recent attempt at shooting Niagra Falls in a kayak.
Ortiz, 30, will be conducting clinics Sept. 2 and 3 on the water. Registration to participate in the clinic is required.
The clinics are free, but the Riversport Rapids admission fee of $30 is required of participants. Spectators can watch the action for free.

Ortiz also will be greeting guests during a community block party at OKC Kayak, 220 N Western, on the night of Sept. 2.
Learn to manage land for dove and quail
A quail and dove field day is scheduled Sept. 8 at the Cross Timbers Wildlife Management Area near Marietta for landowners interested in better managing their properties to attract game birds. Officials from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service and Quail Forever will be conducting seminars throughout the day.
The free event will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Lunch is provided to participants who register by Thursday.
