LB Justin Phillips excelling on the road

The Oklahoman (Sunday) - - OSU POSTGAME - Scott Wright swright@okla

Oklahoma State linebacker Justin Phillips had an interception return for a touchdown in the second straight game.

Phillips, a speedy junior linebacker from Pearland, Texas, has excelled this season, and in particular, the last two games on the road.

Q: Do you enjoy playing on the road?

A: I love it, just to see different atmospheres. The fans get a little grimy sometimes, so it’s cool to play out there and enjoy the competition.

Do you notice when you come out from halftime and a lot of fans have left, like the Pitt fans did?

We do notice it sometimes, but we just go out and try to finish the game. You can tell when the team is pretty much out of it and their fans leave. We’ve just got to continue to play.

As a group, the linebackers have faced some adversity. Has it been hard to keep everyone focused?

We’ve got some older guys and everybody’s able to help each other get prepared so that when we come out there for the game, everybody’s able to execute, the younger guys included. Everybody pitches in and everybody does a good job.
