Wildlife Expo sched­uled at Lazy E Arena in Guthrie

The Ok­la­homa De­part­ment of Wildlife Con­ser­va­tion’s 12th an­nual Wildlife Expo will be Sept. 23 and 24 at the Lazy E Arena and Ranch in Guthrie.

The free event gives adults and kids the op­por­tu­nity to learn about fish­ing, hunt­ing, wildlife con­ser­va­tion and the out­doors.

More than 100 hands-on ac­tiv­i­ties and sem­i­nars are sched­uled in­side and out­side the Lazy E Arena, in­clud­ing fish­ing, archery, shoot­ing, rock climb­ing, dog train­ing, Dutch oven cook­ing, rope mak­ing, moun­tain bik­ing, fal­conry, bow­fish­ing, farm pond man­age­ment, reload­ing, ATV safety, fly fish­ing, mule pack­ing, bird watch­ing and more.

Guests can sam­ple fried cat­fish, deer jerky and buf­falo chili at the “Taste of the Wild” and the “Camp Cookin’ in the Heart­land” booths.

On Fri­day, the Wildlife Expo will host stu­dents from across the state on school field trips. The Wildlife Expo will be open to the public on Sept. 23 and 24.

Sight-in days up­com­ing at OKC Gun Club

The Ok­la­homa City Gun Club will hold its an­nual sight-in days for hunters on Sept. 23 and 24.

The club’s Benchrest range will be open to the public from 9 a.m. un­til 4 p.m. so hunters can sight in their ri­fles for the up­com­ing hunt­ing sea­sons. The price will be $5 per gun.

Eye and ear pro­tec­tion must be worn. Mem­bers of the OKC Gun Club will be on hand to as­sist shoot­ers.

The OKC Gun Club is north of Ar­ca­dia near the in­ter­sec­tion of Sorghum Mill and An­der­son roads. Signs will be posted di­rect­ing peo­ple to the Benchrest range.

Dead­line nears to ap­ply for Washita wa­ter­fowl hunts

The Washita Na­tional Wildlife Refuge in west­ern Ok­la­homa is ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions through Sept. 29 for wa­ter­fowl and sand­hill crane hunt­ing this sea­son.

Sched­uled week­end hunt dates will be Nov. 18-19, Dec. 9-10, Dec. 16-17, Dec. 30-31, Jan. 6-7, Jan. 13-14 and Jan. 20-21.

To ap­ply for one of the week­end hunt dates, ap­pli­cants should send their name, email, mail­ing ad­dress, tele­phone num­ber and one pre­ferred hunt­ing week­end. Any ap­pli­ca­tion list­ing more than one de­sired hunt­ing week­end will be dis­al­lowed.

Ap­pli­cants can email Washita@fws.gov or call 580-664-2205. Ap­pli­ca­tions will not be ac­cepted through the mail or by fax.

In ad­di­tion, Washita will al­low hunt­ing on eight Wed­nes­days dur­ing the sea­son. Hunt­ing blinds can be re­served on a first-call, first-served ba­sis by call­ing the refuge of­fice the day be­fore the de­sired hunt date.

Ten blinds sit­u­ated on the edges of wheat fields will be avail­able for each sched­uled hunt day. Ap­pli­cants must be age 18 or older.

Fur bear­ers fall con­ven­tion sched­uled in Okemah

The Ok­la­homa Fur Bear­ers Al­liance will hold its fall con­ven­tion Oct. 13-14 at the Okemah Fair­grounds.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. both days. Sev­eral ven­dors and demon­stra­tions are sched­uled along with kids’ ac­tiv­i­ties.
