Wildlife Expo scheduled at Lazy E Arena in Guthrie
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s 12th annual Wildlife Expo will be Sept. 23 and 24 at the Lazy E Arena and Ranch in Guthrie.
The free event gives adults and kids the opportunity to learn about fishing, hunting, wildlife conservation and the outdoors.
More than 100 hands-on activities and seminars are scheduled inside and outside the Lazy E Arena, including fishing, archery, shooting, rock climbing, dog training, Dutch oven cooking, rope making, mountain biking, falconry, bowfishing, farm pond management, reloading, ATV safety, fly fishing, mule packing, bird watching and more.
Guests can sample fried catfish, deer jerky and buffalo chili at the “Taste of the Wild” and the “Camp Cookin’ in the Heartland” booths.
On Friday, the Wildlife Expo will host students from across the state on school field trips. The Wildlife Expo will be open to the public on Sept. 23 and 24.
Expo hours are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. For more information and to see a list of all activities plus seminars and times, visit wildlifedepartment. com/expo.
Sight-in days upcoming at OKC Gun Club
The Oklahoma City Gun Club will hold its annual sight-in days for hunters on Sept. 23 and 24.
The club’s Benchrest range will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. so hunters can sight in their rifles for the upcoming hunting seasons. The price will be $5 per gun.
Eye and ear protection must be worn. Members of the OKC Gun Club will be on hand to assist shooters.
The OKC Gun Club is north of Arcadia near the intersection of Sorghum Mill and Anderson roads. Signs will be posted directing people to the Benchrest range.
Deadline nears to apply for Washita waterfowl hunts
The Washita National Wildlife Refuge in western Oklahoma is accepting applications through Sept. 29 for waterfowl and sandhill crane hunting this season.
Scheduled weekend hunt dates will be Nov. 18-19, Dec. 9-10, Dec. 16-17, Dec. 30-31, Jan. 6-7, Jan. 13-14 and Jan. 20-21.
To apply for one of the weekend hunt dates, applicants should send their name, email, mailing address, telephone number and one preferred hunting weekend. Any application listing more than one desired hunting weekend will be disallowed.

In addition, Washita will allow hunting on eight Wednesdays during the season. Hunting blinds can be reserved on a first-call, first-served basis by calling the refuge office the day before the desired hunt date.
Ten blinds situated on the edges of wheat fields will be available for each scheduled hunt day. Applicants must be age 18 or older.
Fur bearers fall convention scheduled in Okemah
The Oklahoma Fur Bearers Alliance will hold its fall convention Oct. 13-14 at the Okemah Fairgrounds.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. both days. Several vendors and demonstrations are scheduled along with kids’ activities.
