Al­pacas strut their stuff

Hun­dreds of al­pacas con­verged Satur­day at the Heart of Ok­la­homa Ex­po­si­tion Cen­ter for the Ok­la­homa Al­paca Hol­i­day Blast Off.

Fea­tur­ing al­pacas from Ok­la­homa and across the U.S., the show is con­sid­ered the largest Al­paca Own­ers As­so­ci­a­tion hal­ter and fleece com­pe­ti­tion in the re­gional south­west.

The an­i­mals were fea­tured in the show ring com­pe­ti­tion, and vis­i­tors learned how al­paca fleece is pro­cessed into a va­ri­ety of prod­ucts. Dozens of ven­dors were on site sell­ing their wares.

The show con­tin­ues Sun­day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the expo cen­ter, 1700 W In­de­pen­dence St. in Shawnee.
