OU Li­braries chooses as­so­ciate dean for spe­cial col­lec­tions

NOR­MAN — Brid­get Burke will join the Univer­sity of Ok­la­homa Li­braries as as­so­ciate dean for spe­cial col­lec­tions start­ing Jan. 15. Burke will be re­spon­si­ble for the lead­er­ship and strate­gic vi­sion for OU Li­braries’ seven dis­tinct spe­cial col­lec­tions.

Rick Luce, dean of OU Li­braries, said Burke’s qual­i­fi­ca­tions and ex­pe­ri­ence as a spe­cial col­lec­tions ex­pert and man­ager are a rare com­bi­na­tion. Burke re­cently vis­ited OU Li­braries’ West­ern History Col­lec­tions as a mem­ber of a team of west­ern Amer­i­can history ma­te­ri­als ex­perts to as­sess and rec­om­mend best prac­tices for preser­va­tion and ac­qui­si­tion of new ma­te­ri­als.

She is the di­rec­tor of the Amer­i­can Her­itage Cen­ter at the Univer­sity of Wy­oming and formerly was the dean of li­braries at North Dakota State Univer­sity. She also worked at the Na­tional Mu­seum of Amer­i­can History Li­brary at the Smith­so­nian In­sti­tu­tion and at the New York Pub­lic Li­brary.
