The Depot to host two jazz organists
The Depot and Jazz in June welcomes jazz organists Garrett Jacobson and Jeremy Thomas to the Winter Wind stage at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 at 200 S Jones Ave. for a rare showcase of the Hammond organ. Free refreshments will be served and wine will be available for purchase.
The Hammond organ was but a curiosity when
Fats Waller and Count Basie brought attention to it in the early 1900s. It wasn’t until a young Jimmy Smith came along in the 1950s when the instrument was fully embraced in jazz for its extreme utility and unique and expressive sound.
Tickets are $20. For tickets and more information, go to normandepot.org or call 307-9320.
