Edmond auctioneer Thomas Gerald Parkhurst Jr. filed paperwork Friday to run for Oklahoma County commissioner — for the fourth time.

Parkhurst, 53, is seeking the District 3 seat now held by retiring Commissioner Ray Vaughn. Parkhurst is a Democrat.

Also running are Vaughn’s chief deputy, Rick Buchanan, 60, of Edmond, and state Rep. Kevin Calvey, 51, of Oklahoma City. Both are Republicans.

Parkhurst said he feels he is a better person for the job than the career politicians.

“I’m not a politician. I’m a working man,” he said.

Parkhurst first filed for the position in 2006 but withdrew a few months later. He filed again in 2010 and 2014. Vaughn, a Republican, beat him easily both times.
