Landry signs 5-year ex­ten­sion with Browns

The Cleve­land Browns have signed wide re­ceiver Jarvis Landry to a five-year, $75 mil­lion con­tract ex­ten­sion, a ma­jor com­mit­ment be­fore his first game or re­cep­tion.

A three-time Pro Bowler ac­quired last month in a trade with Mi­ami, Landry led the NFL with 112 catches last sea­son and scored nine touch­downs, two more than Cleve­land’s en­tire re­ceiv­ing corps.

Michi­gan’s Wag­ner to en­ter NBA Draft

Moe Wag­ner has de­cided to sign with an agent and en­ter the NBA Draft.

The Michi­gan big man an­nounced his plans Satur­day with an es­say writ­ten for The Play­ers’ Tri­bune.

Wag­ner helped the Wolver­ines reach the NCAA fi­nals ear­lier this month, earn­ing a spot on the Fi­nal Four All-Tour­na­ment team. The 6-foot-11, 245-pound Ger­man for­ward av­er­aged 14.6 points, 7.1 re­bounds and made .394 per­cent of his 3-point shots last sea­son.

Shazier stands to cheers at Buck­eyes’ spring game

Ohio State fan fa­vorite Ryan Shazier vis­ited the spring game Satur­day and stood without as­sis­tance to cheers from the crowd at his alma mater.

The Pitts­burgh Steel­ers line­backer is re­cov­er­ing from a dev­as­tat­ing spinal in­jury suf­fered in a Dec. 4 game with the Ben­gals.

Shazier, an hon­orary cap­tain of one of the squads, drove a golf cart to mid­field and climbed out to stand briefly to fire up the crowd. He then em­braced the other hon­orary cap­tain, former Ohio State cor­ner­back and cur­rent Philadel­phia Ea­gles safety Mal­colm Jenk­ins, and Ohio State coach Ur­ban Meyer.

Nel­son Cruz ac­ti­vated from DL

Former Ok­la­homa City RedHawks slugger Nel­son Cruz has been ac­ti­vated from the 10-day dis­abled list by the Seat­tle Mariners af­ter be­ing out since the open­ing week­end of the sea­son due to an an­kle in­jury.

Seat­tle put its power-hit­ting des­ig­nated hit­ter back in the lineup on Satur­day.

Cruz has been side­lined since be­ing hurt slip­ping on the dugout steps and sprain­ing his right an­kle dur­ing the Mariners’ open­ing home­s­tand. Cruz hit two home runs in his first six at-bats of the sea­son be­fore the in­jury forced him to miss the past nine games.
