Celebrating 70 years
Banquet: Members of the Oklahoma City Association of Phi Beta Kappa celebrated the 70th anniversary of the group at the annual banquet which was at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. The honorary scholarship society is open to all Phi Beta Kappas in the metropolitan area.
Speaker: Ed Kelley, Dean of the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Oklahoma, was the speaker. He is also a Phi Beta Kappa from OU and has been Editor of The Oklahoman and The Washington Times. He is in the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame and was named Editor of the Year by the National Press Foundation.
Annual award: Brooke Smith Murphy was honored as Phi Beta Kappa of the Year. This award recognizes a member who has contributed to the association and the community and state. Among the past winners have been Patience Latting, David L. Boren and Hannah Atkins.
Scholarships: Recipients of college scholarships were announced. They are funded by donations from the association’s members.
