Cel­e­brat­ing 70 years

Ban­quet: Mem­bers of the Ok­la­homa City As­so­ci­a­tion of Phi Beta Kappa cel­e­brated the 70th an­niver­sary of the group at the an­nual ban­quet which was at the Ok­la­homa City Golf & Coun­try Club. The hon­orary schol­ar­ship so­ci­ety is open to all Phi Beta Kap­pas in the metropoli­tan area.

Speaker: Ed Kel­ley, Dean of the Gay­lord Col­lege of Jour­nal­ism and Mass Com­mu­ni­ca­tions at the Univer­sity of Ok­la­homa, was the speaker. He is also a Phi Beta Kappa from OU and has been Ed­i­tor of The Oklahoman and The Wash­ing­ton Times. He is in the Ok­la­homa Jour­nal­ism Hall of Fame and was named Ed­i­tor of the Year by the Na­tional Press Foun­da­tion.

An­nual award: Brooke Smith Mur­phy was hon­ored as Phi Beta Kappa of the Year. This award rec­og­nizes a mem­ber who has con­trib­uted to the as­so­ci­a­tion and the com­mu­nity and state. Among the past win­ners have been Pa­tience Lat­ting, David L. Boren and Han­nah Atkins.

Schol­ar­ships: Re­cip­i­ents of col­lege schol­ar­ships were an­nounced. They are funded by dona­tions from the as­so­ci­a­tion’s mem­bers.
