The composition: A three-week art project at Stanley Hupfeld Academy at Western Village for third graders resulted in everyone painting a portrait of Stan Hupfeld using flat canvases with palette knives and paintbrushes. The students wanted to do something for the school’s namesake and chose to paint pictures of him which will hang at the school. They presented them to him at a mentor appreciation assembly at the school. The canvas: Artist Suzie Hupfeld, Stan’s wife, showed the students a picture and showed them her abstract way of painting. The students then became abstract expressionists. Honoring Stan: Stan Hupfeld also was presented an award from The White House in honor of his work with the volunteer mentoring program.
