Two die in wrecks near Hin­ton

Two men died Fri­day af­ter sep­a­rate wrecks along In­ter­state 40 near Hin­ton, the Ok­la­homa High­way Pa­trol re­ported.

Justin James Sch­nei­der, 34, Elk City

About 7:05 p.m. Fri­day, Sch­nei­der was driv­ing a trac­tor-trailer west on In­ter­state 40, about six miles north­west of Hin­ton. A tire blew out on the rig and the ve­hi­cle crossed the me­dian and en­tered east­bound traf­fic, strik­ing an­other trac­tor-trailer head-on, troop­ers said.

Sch­nei­der died at the scene. The driver of the other rig, Tirso Levya, 50, of Phoenix, Ari­zona, was taken to an Ok­la­homa City hos­pi­tal, treated for in­juries and re­leased, the pa­trol re­ported.

Lan­don Say­ers, 30, Al­tus

About 9:35 a.m., Say­ers was driv­ing a car west on In­ter­state 40 about three miles north of Hin­ton. The car was one of three that struck a drive shaft that had fallen off a trac­tor-trailer also go­ing west on the high­way.

Say­ers’ car left the road­way, struck a guardrail and rolled. Say­ers, who was wear­ing a seat belt, was taken to an El Reno hos­pi­tal where he died.

No other in­juries were re­ported in the in­ci­dent, troop­ers said.
