Two die in wrecks near Hinton
Two men died Friday after separate wrecks along Interstate 40 near Hinton, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Justin James Schneider, 34, Elk City
About 7:05 p.m. Friday, Schneider was driving a tractor-trailer west on Interstate 40, about six miles northwest of Hinton. A tire blew out on the rig and the vehicle crossed the median and entered eastbound traffic, striking another tractor-trailer head-on, troopers said.
Schneider died at the scene. The driver of the other rig, Tirso Levya, 50, of Phoenix, Arizona, was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, treated for injuries and released, the patrol reported.
Landon Sayers, 30, Altus
About 9:35 a.m., Sayers was driving a car west on Interstate 40 about three miles north of Hinton. The car was one of three that struck a drive shaft that had fallen off a tractor-trailer also going west on the highway.
Sayers’ car left the roadway, struck a guardrail and rolled. Sayers, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to an El Reno hospital where he died.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, troopers said.
