Hosty Duo to perform in Norman

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NORMAN — Hosty Duo will take the Summer Breeze stage at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at Lions Park, Symmes Street and Flood Avenue.

Concertgoers should bring seating and refreshments to the free outdoor show.

Mike Hosty is a guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and pedal bass player who is joined by two-piece drummer Mike “Tic Tack” Byers to form a duo that keeps audiences dancing and laughing.

Hosty simultaneously tears through gritty slide leads, blows harmonica or Kazoo, and uses a foot pedal to stomp bass lines. His guitar collection includes an eight-string instrument that allows him to thump three bass strings with his thumb while he fingerpicks the remaining five.

Hosty Duo is “one of Oklahoma’s most cherished contemporary live music acts for fans of blues, rock, hilarious songs that often reference the state, and music that can bound from polka and disco to country and right back to rock in the span of a two-minute Hosty spiel in between tunes during a show,” says Oklahoma Music Guide Volume II.

The duo plays about 250 dates every year through consistent touring in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. It has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show during its coverage of the Okie Noodling Festival in Pauls Valley. Hosty has been playing since 1990. Byers joined him in 1995.

Summer Breeze concerts are made possible, in part, by grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Norman Arts Council, as well as support from the city, individual and business contributors.
