Edmond Santa Fe’s Hansen expecting big season

Edmond Santa Fe quarterback Kanan Hansen finally feels right.

After an up-and-down junior season, Hansen used a healthy offseason for progress, both as a quarterback and as a leader.

“We’ve been running routes on our own, which we didn’t get to do that last year,” Hansen said. “We feel a lot better about ourselves.”

Hansen, the younger brother of Arkansas State quarterback Justice Hansen, broke his foot at the end of his sophomore season. He was forced to rehab in the offseason, leaving him behind entering last season.

But fully able to prepare for this season has made a difference.

His passes look crisper, he’s stronger and he’s confident.

“A lot of the guys have noticed,” Hansen said. “Even on their routes they tell me the ball is coming out faster, farther.”

Edmond North’s Minnick working way back

Without a knee brace, Edmond North senior Blake Minnick looked like his old self, not the one who missed all of last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“I seriously forget I did it,” Minnick said. “I’m 110 percent better. I’m ready.”

Minnick was fired up as he ran around the Huskies’ new stadium earlier this week. It was a defensive workout, so he primarily played defensive line. He’ll also be a running back.

It will be the first time since his freshman year he’s playing both ways. And look for him to not wear the brace after next week’s opening scrimmage.

Minnick, who is 5 feet 8 and 225 pounds, wrestled last winter, but he said he remains motivated for football after missing the season and watching Edmond North finish 3-7.

“It means everything to me,” Minnick said. “My times are back to better than ever, lifts are higher. I’m ready for senior season to see what I can do.”
