Cow­girls edge Red Wolves in sea­son opener

STILL­WA­TER — Brax­tin Miller scored 23 points as the Ok­la­homa State women's bas­ket­ball team held off Ar­kan­sas State 62-60 in its sea­son opener on Fri­day at Gal­lagherIba Arena.

Miller shot 5 of 8 from 3-point range and had eight re­bounds. LaTashia Jones added 10 points for the Cow­girls and fin­ished with 21 re­bounds — one shy of the school record set by Toni Young in 2011.

Jireh Wash­ing­ton led Ar­kan­sas State with 15 points.

The Red Wolves cut OSU's ad­van­tage to 61-60 with six sec­onds left be­fore Jaden Hobbs made a free throw with five sec­onds re­main­ing to give the Cow­girls a 62-60 lead. Ar­kan­sas State was un­able to at­tempt a shot be­fore the fi­nal buzzer.

The Cow­girls shot 24 of 70 from the field and 7 of 19 from 3-point range. Ar­kan­sas State strug­gled from be­yond the arc and fin­ished 2 for 13. The Red Wolves shot 19 of 55 from the field.
