Texas Tech signs 7-foot-1 Russian center as 8th addition

Texas Tech has signed 7-foot-1 Russian center Vladislav Goldin.

Coach Chris Beard announced Goldin's signing Thursday. Goldin is from Nalchik, Russia.

Gold in played last season at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticu­t. He also played for Russia's U 18 and U 19 national teams, and for three seasons with CSKA Moscow's Junior Team.

The center is the eighth player that has signed with t he Red Raiders, including Division I transfers Mac McClung (Georgetown), Jamarius Burton (Wichita State), Marcus Santos-Silva (Virginia Commonweal­th). There was also a junior college transfer and three high schoool signees.

DUKE: Duke is in talks with Boston Celtics assistant coach and former WNBA All-Star Kara Lawson to lead its women's basketball program, a person familiar with the situation said Friday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the school hasn't commented publicly on its search.

Football coach Zach Allen has accepted a position with Northeaste­rn State football, according to the Miami News Record.
