10th anniversary celebration Saturday
VERNON >> Vernon Downs is celebrating its 10-year anniversary Saturday with a chance for visitors to win their share of $10,000 in giveaways. Guests can also enjoy musical entertainment, food and beverage specials and complimentary dessert throughout the evening.
A series of drawings for $500 cash prizes begin at 5 p.m. and continue at 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. (two $500 winners announced at each drawing time). A single winner of the $5,000 grand prize will be chosen at 11 p.m., and the final $1,000 will be awarded at midnight. All winners will also receive a 10-year anniversary commemorative T-shirt.
“The King of Polka” Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Sturr is an American polka singer who is also well-versed on the trumpet, clarinet and saxophone. He has more than 100 albums to his credit, and his recordings have won 18 of the 24 Grammy Awards given for Best Polka Album.
Concert tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 at all Ticketmaster outlets and at the Vernon Downs Players Club. Tickets will also be available the day
of the concert for $20.
Guests may enjoy complimentary anniversary dessert on the gaming floor beginning at 6:30 p.m. while supplies last.
Several food and bever- age specials will be offered throughout the night, including a Triple 777 Slider Special. Mr G’s Food & Spirits will also offer a variety of additional specials.
Meanwhile, harness racing takes place that evening with a post time of 6:45 p.m. The season continues the following week- end and wraps up Saturday, Nov. 5. Guest can stay after the final race for a fireworks show.
