Bears flat­ten Fire­birds in opener

CHIT­TE­NANGO, N.Y. » The Chit­te­nango boys soc­cer team didn’t need long to score its first goal of the 2017 sea­son, strik­ing in the 7th minute of its opener against Phoenix on Tuesday.

Goals 2-11 weren’t too far be­hind.

The Bears’ of­fense dom­i­nated the first half to the tune of 10 goals, rolling to an 11-1 vic­tory and into the cham­pi­onship of its More than a Game Tour­na­ment.

“Our pos­ses­sion of the ball and be­ing able to knock the ball,” said Chit­te­nango coach Brian Thomas of what im­pressed him the most. “A cou­ple of our young play­ers step­ping up. We’ve got three sopho­mores that are start­ing and a cou­ple of our se­niors re­ally stepped up. I know this is one they wanted to get off on the right note so, good start for us.”

Se­nior Seth Spur­geon and sopho­more Sean Lars­son scored three goals apiece in the vic­tory with se­nior Tim Ry­der adding
