Canas­tota Le­gion Aux­il­iary Unit 140 will not be meet­ing in De­cem­ber. The group will hold its an­nual Christ­mas Din­ner on Dec. 13 with cock­tails at 6 p.m. fol­lowed by din­ner at 7 p.m. Mem­bers can sign up at the Le­gion or call Sue Monette for in­for­ma­tion. The Aux­il­iary will meet as usual on Jan. 17, 2018.

Canas­tota Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 140 will hold All Sports Sun­day each week un­til the Su­per Bowl from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Chicken wings and fries will be avail­able.

The Cazenovia Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 88 has flags for sale at the Cazenovia Cham­ber of Com­merce. Th­ese are high qual­ity flags made in the USA. They are polyester with hand sewn stars. Prices are $28 for 3x5 foot and $35 for 4x6 foot. They also have ceme­tery flags for $5 and pa­rade flags for 50 cents avail­able. Can­di­dates must pass amed­i­cal exam, un­dergo a suc­cess­ful back­ground check, have a valid driver’s li­cense, hold a safe driv­ing record and carry cur­rent auto in­surance. The CNY Vet­er­ans Out­reach Cen­ter has launched the first ever Vet­er­ans Home­less­ness Preven­tion Demonstration Project (VHPD). The VHPD project is a pilot col­lab­o­ra­tive ini­tia­tive by HUD, the Depart­ment of La­bor (DOL), and the Vet­er­ans Af­fairs ( VA) to ex­plore in­no­va­tive early in­ter­ven­tions to help pre­vent veteran home­less­ness. While it as­sists all qual­i­fied vet­er­ans, the pro­gramis tar­geted to ser­vice mem­bers re­turn­ing from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. VHPD as­sis­tance is fo­cused on main­tain­ing or ac­cess­ing sta­ble hous­ing, health care and em­ploy­ment ser­vices, ei­ther di­rectly or through re­fer­ral to com­mu­nity re­sources in­clud­ing: Fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance, sup­port­ive ser­vices, ac­cess to VA Health Care Ben­e­fits and ed­u­ca­tion and Em­ploy­ment Op­por­tu­ni­ties. The CNY Vet­er­ans Out­reach Cen­ter was formed to pro­vide and con­duct char­i­ta­ble ed­u­ca­tional, so­cial, and hous­ing ser­vices for vet­er­ans and their fam­i­lies in need. The Vet­er­ans Out­reach Cen­ter was de­vel­oped by an Iraqi War veteran who re­al­ized there was a lack of ser­vices for vet­er­ans in Up­state New York. The cen­ter serves on av­er­age 300 vet­er­ans and their fam­i­lies amonth. Other ser­vices avail­able at the cen­ter in­clude: food pantry, ac­cess to cloth­ing and house­hold items, out­reach, in­ter­net ac­cess, ad­vo­cacy and con­nec­tion to VA ben­e­fits. The Sons of Post 404 will meet at the Le­gion at 6:30 p.m. ev­ery sec­ond Mon­day of the month. The Le­gion Vet­er­ans will meet at Post 404 at 6:30 p.m. the third Wed­nes­day of each month.


The Aux­il­iary of the Verona Vet­er­ans of For­eign Wars No. 6811 will meet the third Mon­day of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Verona VFW, Spring Road.
