One charged with wel­fare fraud

» A Cazenovia woman was ar­rested for more than $4,000 in wel­fare fraud.

Ton­nie S. New­comb, 38, of Caznevoia, was charged with third- de­gree wel­fare fraud, a class D felony; third de­gree grand lar­ceny, a class D felony; and first­de­gree of­fer­ing a false in­stru­ment for fil­ing, a class E felony.

Madi­son County Sher­iff’s Of­fice In­ves­ti­ga­tors said New- comb filed public as­sis­tance doc­u­men­ta­tion with the Madi­son County Depart­ment of So­cial Ser­vices that said her chil­dren were liv­ing with her at her house when in fact they were liv­ing in an­other res­i­dence.

New­comb was pro­vided with $4,968 in public as­sis­tance ben­e­fits she wouldn’t have oth­er­wise re­ceived, po­lice said.

New­comb was ar­raigned in Oneida City Court and is sched­uled to ap­pear at the Town of Lenox Court on Feb. 27.
