The Canastota Public Library Knitters recently completed their latest project, “Shawls on the Wall.”

When most people think of shawls, they remember those worn by their grandmother. Today, shawls have evolved into one of the hottest fashion trends; they can be styled in a number of ways and used for fancy occasions such as weddings, proms or dinner parties or paired with a shirt and jeans.

The knitters created this shawl display as a fundraiser to benefit the library’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library. All shawls will be on display at the library for the month. Starting bids for the shawls will be either $20 or $30 depending on the size.

All proceeds from the sale will help the library to ship Dolly Parton books to the children from Canastota who are enrolled in

the Imagination Library program. While the Dolly Parton Foundation donates the books to this program, the library is responsible for monthly shipping costs for more than 300 area children. The cost to ship books to one child is approximately $30 each year.

The Canastota Library Knitters meet on two days at the library. One group meets Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. A second group meets every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call the library at (315) 697-7030.
