Cam­den takes sec­ond at TVL cham­pi­onships

CAM­DEN, N.Y. » The Cam­den girls track and field side edged Utica Proc­tor by a point to place sec­ond at the Tri-Val­ley League Cham­pi­onships on Tues­day.

Rome Free Academy ran away with the over­all ti­tle, more than dou­bling Cam­den’s over­all score of 88 with a 174. Ver­non-Veron­aSher­rill fin­ished fourth over­all and Oneida placed eighth.

MacKen­zieMix played a vi­tal role in the Blue Devils’ sec­ond place fin­ish, tak­ing the 100m with a 13.06. She also helped Cam­den to a first place fin­ish in the 4x800 re­lay, team­ing with Mor­gan Lu­ca­son, El­iz­a­beth Lu­ca­son, and De­lainey Heb­ble for the only sub-10 minute time in the event with a 9:41.01. Blue Devil sopho­more Laura Chase brought home a sec­ond a place fin­ish in the out­door pen­tathlon, amass­ing 1,578 points.

Cam­den Eighth-grader El­iz­a­beth Lu­ca­son added a sec­ond

place fin­ish in the 1,500m, beat­ing out VVS’ Delaney Brewer by less than three sec­onds with a 4:52.61. Ha­ley Hinds added an­other sec­ond place spot for Cam­den with an 8:02.37 in the 2,000m steeplechase.

Fol­low­ing her third place fin­ish in the 1,500m, Brewer took the 3,000m with a 10:43.12.

Julianna Ca­vanagh posted Oneida’s sole first place fin­ish of the day, and it was not in the triple jump. The de­fend­ing state cham­pion placed sec­ond in the triple jump be­hind Mar­que­sha Ware of Utica Proc­tor but took home first in the long jump with a 17-05.5. Melina Ball added a sec­ond place fin­ish for Oneida in the 100m hur­dles with a 17.48, just .28 sec­onds be­hind event win­ner Jada Lock­wood of Utica Proc­tor.
