Camden takes second at TVL championships
CAMDEN, N.Y. » The Camden girls track and field side edged Utica Proctor by a point to place second at the Tri-Valley League Championships on Tuesday.
Rome Free Academy ran away with the overall title, more than doubling Camden’s overall score of 88 with a 174. Vernon-VeronaSherrill finished fourth overall and Oneida placed eighth.
MacKenzieMix played a vital role in the Blue Devils’ second place finish, taking the 100m with a 13.06. She also helped Camden to a first place finish in the 4x800 relay, teaming with Morgan Lucason, Elizabeth Lucason, and Delainey Hebble for the only sub-10 minute time in the event with a 9:41.01. Blue Devil sophomore Laura Chase brought home a second a place finish in the outdoor pentathlon, amassing 1,578 points.
Camden Eighth-grader Elizabeth Lucason added a second
place finish in the 1,500m, beating out VVS’ Delaney Brewer by less than three seconds with a 4:52.61. Haley Hinds added another second place spot for Camden with an 8:02.37 in the 2,000m steeplechase.
Following her third place finish in the 1,500m, Brewer took the 3,000m with a 10:43.12.
Julianna Cavanagh posted Oneida’s sole first place finish of the day, and it was not in the triple jump. The defending state champion placed second in the triple jump behind Marquesha Ware of Utica Proctor but took home first in the long jump with a 17-05.5. Melina Ball added a second place finish for Oneida in the 100m hurdles with a 17.48, just .28 seconds behind event winner Jada Lockwood of Utica Proctor.
