Compelling questions ... and maybe a few actual answers

Why didn’t Denny force the issue?

Let’s start with the obvious. Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott have a history, and in terms of public reaction, Denny’s reputation took a hit. So when Denny had a shot to stick his nose in there in Turn 1 at Dover, on the final restart, he appeared to back off and let Chase run it out. That’s understandable in one respect, but then again, man, that would’ve been spectacular entertainment if he’d gone ugly on him.

Where is Christopher Bell next year?

Probably back in Xfinity, though he has nothing to prove there. It’s never been just about ability in auto racing’s pecking order. Often, manufacturers and sponsors have the final say about who gets promoted. In better economic times for NASCAR, Bell would almost be able to call his shot, depending on contractual issues. Now, not so much. But is he ready? You better believe it.
