Hawks and rap­tors

New York Mills — At the Nov. 18 meet­ing of the Kirk­land Bird Club, Pro­fes­sor Chris Briggs will give a pro­gram on Swain­son’s Hawks and Rap­tor Ecol­ogy. Be­fore be­com­ing an ad­junct pro­fes­sor of bi­ol­ogy at Hamil­ton Col­lege, Briggs was the re­search di­rec­tor at the Golden Gate Rap­tor Ob­ser­va­tory. This pro­gram will fea­ture Briggs’ work with Swain­son’s Hawks and the ef­fects pes­ti­cides have had on their pop­u­la­tion. He will also dis­cuss how some widely used pes­ti­cides are af­fect­ing rap­tors in gen­eral. This pro­gram is free and open to the pub­lic. The pro­gram/meet­ing will take place on Sun­day, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the New York Mills Com­mu­nity Room, 320 Main St., New York Mills.

Clin­ton His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety open house

Clin­ton — The Clin­ton His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, at 1 Foun­tain St., Clin­ton, will host an open house from 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Fri- day, Nov. 23, dur­ing the an­nual Clin­ton Shop­pers Stroll. This 19th cen­tury cel­e­bra­tion will fea­ture home­made Vic­to­rian Christ­mas treats and a Christ­mas tree dec­o­rated in hand­crafted Vic­to­rian or­na­ments and sparkling lights. Warm win­ter punch, vin­tage hol­i­day mu­sic and gift shop items will also be avail­able. Chil­dren will re­ceive a free gift and from 4-7 p.m. Fa­ther Christ­mas will at­tend.

Christ­mas at the Cor­ner

Clin­ton — Christ­mas at the Cor­ner will be held on Fri­day, Nov. 23, at Stone Pres­by­te­rian Church, 8 S. Park Row, Clin­ton, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Seven C’s Café, the Fair Trade Shop and the Bake Shop will be open all day. The day will in­clude “A Christ­mas Story” with Tim Coombs and “The Po­lar Ex­press” with Scott Leonard at 2 p.m.; “Christ­mas Story” with the Stone Sto­ry­tellers at 2:30 p.m.; a carol sin­ga­long with Rob Kolb at 3 p.m.; and the St. Mary’s Church Choir hol­i­day con­cert at 4:30 p.m. For more in­for­ma­tion, call 315-853-2933.

Oneida Cas­tle yard clean up

Oneida Cas­tle — The vil­lage of Oneida Cas­tle will hold its an­nual fall yard clean up Nov. 26-30. Res­i­dents must place all yard de­bris at curb­side and may in­clude limbs up to two inches in di­am­e­ter. All leaves must be bagged for pick up.

Ag­ing mas­tery pro­gram

Sher­rill — The Park­way Cen­ter will of­fer free classes at the Sher­rill Com­mu­nity Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Tues­days from 1- 3 p.m. through Nov. 27. These classes are an op­por­tu­nity to meet new friends and learn skills that will lead to im­proved health, stronger fi­nan­cial se­cu­rity, and over­all well-be­ing.
