The Boca Ra­ton school was one of 12 Flor­ida schools rec­og­nized as a Na­tional Blue Rib­bon School for 2018. The recog­ni­tion is based on a school’s over­all aca­demic per­for­mance or progress in clos­ing achieve­ment gaps among stu­dent sub­groups.

The School District’s more than 300 Choice and Ca­reer pro­grams will be on dis­play for the 22nd Show­case of Schools, 4-8 p.m. Tues­day in the Expo Cen­ter of the South Flor­ida Fair­grounds. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from 114 dif­fer­ent cam­puses will be avail­able to an­swer ques­tions about the ed­u­ca­tional op­por­tu­ni­ties of­fered at each of their schools. Choice ap­pli­ca­tions for the 2019-2020 school year will be ac­cepted start­ing Nov. 1 at www.myp­b­choiceapp.com. Dead­lines for ap­pli­ca­tions will vary de­pend­ing on the pro­gram se­lected. Fes­ti­val has launched its an­nual High School Po­etry Con­test in part­ner­ship with Old School Square in Delray Beach. Now through Dec. 1, any Palm Beach County pub­lic or pri­vate high school stu­dent can sub­mit one orig­i­nal poem (30 lines max­i­mum) for con­sid­er­a­tion. Orig­i­nal po­ems should be sub­mit­ted by email to: PBPF1@aol.com. For con­test rules, please visit www.palm­beach­po­et­ryfes­ti­val.org. The win­ning poet will re­ceive $200, and the four run­ners-up will each re­ceive $100. In ad­di­tion, all five win­ning teen po­ets will read their po­ems at the Fes­ti­val’s Award Cer­e­mony on Jan. 21.

The 2019 Ar­tiGras Fine Arts Fes­ti­val is seek­ing sub­mis­sions for the Han ley Foun­da­tion Ar­tiGras Youth Art Com­pe­ti­tion. This year’s theme is“Wild Flor­ida ,” en­com­pass­ing the state’s an­i­mals and scenery. Stu­dents in kinder­garten through grade 12 can sub­mit their art­work through their art teach­ers through Dec. 6. Ar­tiGras takes place in Jupiter Feb. 16-18.
