Q: I watch The Closer, and in one plotline, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon’s daughter, Sosie Bacon, played Sedgwick’s niece. I was impressed with her acting ability. Has she performed in anything else? — Pat Pochiro, Youngstown, Ohio
A: Her only professional credit before her run on her mom’s TNT show was the 2005 movie Loverboy, in which she played — of all things! — her mother’s character at a younger age. And the director of that film just happened to be ... Kevin Bacon. At this point, then, Sosie’s acting opportunities would seem to owe to her family connections. That’s not to say it always will be that way, though.
Q: Why was Eddie Cibrian’s character, Jesse, killed off at the start of this season of CSI: Miami? — Terry Loftus, Lakewood, Colo.
A: The actor’s option for another year of the CBS crime drama wasn’t picked up — in large part to make way for Adam Rodriguez to return to the cast full time as Eric Delko — so it was one season and out for Cibrian. With the way the cliffhanger left virtually all the regular characters in peril, having Jesse not survive the biological attack on the lab was a simple way to write Cibrian out of the show.
Q: How come full versions of The Mentalist can’t be found on CBS.com? Clips are there, but not full versions. — Burt Angeli, Kingsford, Mich.
A: In all likelihood, it relates to the network’s arrangement with the show’s studio ... in that case, Warner Bros. Television. While networks make many series episodes available to view online after their broadcasts, it’s not the situation with every single show. The production company has to agree to that, and in most cases where series are missing from network websites, it has to do with what is (or isn’t) in the contract.
