Hicks’ 3 TD throws to Spann spark win over No. 5 Bob­cats.

BOCA RA­TON — Wit h t he s t a n d s p a c ke d f o r B o c a Ra­ton’s se­nior night, it was Lake Worth’s se­niors who put on a show to re­mem­ber Fri­day night.

Mar­qui s e Hi c k s t h re w three touch­down passes to Mar­ques Spann, lead­ing the Tro­jans to a 24-14 up­set of the fifth-ranked Bob­cats 24-14 in Boca Ra­ton.

En­ter­ing the game with a two-game win­ning streak, the Tro­jans (4-3, 3-1 Dis­trict 10-8A) got on the board first with a 23-yard field goal af­ter re­cov­er­ing a fum­ble.

Four days af­ter their sec­ond con­sec­u­tive three-point loss, this to Park Vista in a game post­poned by Hur­ri­cane Matthew, the Bob­cats (4-3, 2-2 10-8A) took ad­van­tage of a muffed punt re­turn when Tor­cell Haynes re­cov­ered at Lake Worth’s 1. Shel­ley Sin­gle­tary scored on the next play for a 7-3 lead.

Hi c k s s t r u g g l e d t o ge t t h i n g s go i n g i n t h e f i r s t half, over­throw­ing Spann in what would have been a long touch­down and throw­ing an in­ter­cep­tion late in the sec­ond quar­ter.

How­ever, just be­fore half­time, Hicks found Spann on a 55-yard touch­down that gave the Tro­jans a 10-7 lead en­ter­ing in­ter­mis­sion.

Hi c k s a n d S p a n n c o n - nected again a lit­tle more than three min­utes into the third quar­ter on a 9-yard touch­down pass to make it 17-7.

Af­ter Boca pulled to within 17-14 on Sin­gle­tary’s 67-yard touch­down sprint, Hicks and Spann hooked up one last time, this time for 40 yards, with 5:33 re­main­ing.

Lake Worth sealed the win with an in­ter­cep­tion of a Micah Leon pass with about four min­utes re­main­ing in the game.
