Oxbridge’s Wilson is 2A coach of year in girls soccer

ThunderWol­ves won first state title and finished 15-1-2.

O x b r i d g e A c a d e my ’ s record-setting season for girls soccer continued Friday.

Staci Wilson was named the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Class 2A Coach of the Year in balloting conducted by high school girls soccer coaches and media representa­tives.

Wilson, in her second season, coached the ThunderWol­ves to the school’s first state championsh­ip.

Oxbridge rallied for a 3-2 victory against Montverde on Feb. 15 in DeLand to claim the Class 2A state title.

The ThunderWol­ves finished 15-1-2 this season and are 23-2-6 overall under Wil- son.

“The girls represente­d themselves, our team and Oxbridge amazingly,” Wilson said following the ThunderWol­ves’ state championsh­ip victory.

“I am beyond proud of every single player. It was a total team effort.

“Hard work and never giving up on each other has paid off.”

Boca Raton coach Rachael Grimes was runner-up to Oviedo’s Scott Waisanen for Class 5A Coach of the Year. The Lions defeated the Bobcats 3-1 Feb. 17 to win the 5A state championsh­ip. Boca Raton finished 25-1. Wilson and Waisanen are among five coaches who are in the running for Florida Dairy Farmers’ Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.

Gardens star gets Duke offer: Palm Beach Gardens defensive end/tight end Jarrett Jackson has added Duke to his growing collection of Power 5 college offers.

J a c k s o n , w h o w i l l b e a s e n i o r t h i s s e a s o n , announced the news via Twitter on Thursday night.

In addition to the Blue Devils, the 6-foot-5, 245pound Jackson holds offers from Florida, Loui sville, West Virginia and Tennessee, among others.

T h e t h r e e - s t a r r e c r u i t was among a handful of top Palm Beach County class of 2018 recruits who visited the University of Miami for the school’s Junior Day.
