Hurricanes hang on to defeat Wolfpack 7-5

Miami scored all of its runs over the game’s first three innings and held on for a 7-5 win over North Caro - lina State on Sunday afternoon in the series finale in Raleigh, N.C.

The Wolfpack (12-9, 3-3 ACC) chipped away at the Hurricanes’ (9-11, 3-3) lead in the middle innings, but a strong showing from the bullpen, including the fifth s ave of t he s e a s on f ro m sophomore Frankie Bartow, clinched the win for the visitors.

Bolstered by the early offense, junior left-hander Michael Mediavilla allowed four runs (two earned) in five innings. He struck out three batters and walked four before being relieved to start the sixth by righthande­r Andrew Cabezas.

Virginia Tech 17, Florida State 0: Florida State lost Sunday as Virginia Tech topped the Seminoles in Blacksburg, Va.

FSU (14-7, 3-3 ACC) trailed 1-0 entering the sixth inning, but the Hokies (13-9, 3-3 ACC) scored 10 in the sixth and six more in the seventh to secure the victory.

Florida State starter Drew P a r r i s h ( 2 - 1 ) was s t r o n g through five innings, allowing one run, but ran into t ro u b l e i n t h e s i xt h . He ended up allowing eight hits and seven runs while strik- ing out a career-high seven.

Junior outfielder Rhett Aplin led the way for the Seminoles, accounting for three of their five hits. He is hitting a team-high .348 on the season.

Auburn 6, Florida 5: The Tigers (17-5, 3-0 SEC) swept the fifth-ranked Gators (138, 0-3) in Auburn, Ala.

Florida had a 4-1 lead in the top of the third, but Auburn tied it up in the bottom of the inning on three unearned runs. The Gators also later had a 5-4 lead, but the Tigers tied it in the seventh and took home the win in the bottom of the ninth on an errant throw by pitcher Frank Rubio that allowed the winning run to score.
