Lower Providence man jailed for attempted sex with minor
A Lower Providence man faces time behind state prison bars after he was caught in a sting operation targeting those who attempted to have sexual contact with minors.
Charles Edward “Bud” Christmann, 45, of the 2700 block of Egypt Road, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to two to four years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to felony charges of unlawful contact with a minor and attempted statutory sexual assault in connection with incidents that occurred between May and August of 2016.
Judge Garrett D. Page also ordered Christmann to complete five years’ probation following parole, meaning Christmann will be under court supervision for nine years. Christmann will be under sex offender supervision and will also have to report his address to state police once he’s released from prison.
Page also prohibited Christmann from using the Internet during his period of court supervision.
An investigation of Christmann began in May 2016, when undercover agents from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section responded to an online ad allegedly posted by Christmann that was seeking sexual contact, according to the criminal complaint. Christmann proceeded to have a sexually explicit online communication with the undercover agent, who was posing as a 14-year-old boy, according to the criminal complaint.
Christmann, according to the arrest affidavit, sent the undercover agent sexually explicit photos and video footage of himself during the online conversations. Eventually, during an Aug. 7, 2016, exchange, Christmann expressed a desire to meet who he believed was the 14-year-old boy for sex, according to the arrest affi- davit.
“So you looking forward to tomorrow? I’m looking forward to giving you great pleasure…,” Christmann allegedly wrote in one message.
The meeting was set up to occur at an apartment complex located on Bill Smith Boulevard in the King of Prussia section of Upper Merion. When Christmann arrived on the parking lot of the apartment complex at 11:11 a.m. Aug. 8, state agents took him into custody, court documents indicate.
When confronted with the allegations Christmann admitted to traveling to meet who he believed was a 14-year-old boy for sexual contact.
“Christmann stated that he fantasized and masturbated to the conversation he had with the minor child. Christmann stated that his interest in males began approximately four years ago and his interest in juvenile boys began about four months ago,” state authorities alleged in the arrest affidavit.
