Gen­er­als stay un­beaten at 6-0

Stur­di­vant rushes for 173 yards, scores 3 TDs

CH­ESTER­FIELD - Zyan Stur­di­vant scored three touch­downs, Ky'mon Pope threw for three TDs and Din­wid­die Foot­ball re­mained un­beaten.

The Gen­er­als im­proved to 6-0 af­ter tak­ing down host­ing Matoaca (1-5) 40-2.

"Our de­fense played re­ally well tonight," said Din­wid­die Foot­ball head coach Billy Mills II. "We came out against some things we hadn't re­ally seen be­fore, but we ad­justed well and kept them off the score­board."

Stand­out run­ning back Zyan Stur­di­vant reeled off 173 yards and two touch­downs on 15 car­ries. He also hauled in a 34-yard touch­down

re­cep­tion.

Quar­ter­back Ky'mon Pope com­pleted seven passes on 14 at­tempts for 87 yards and three touch­downs. Mak­ing the TD catches were Stur­di­vant, ClaTrey Reese and Jasiah Wil­liams. Omar Tyson and Blake Wil­liams each had six tack­les to lead the Gen­er­als' de­fense. Cody Mills re­cov­ered a fum­ble.

Wil­liam Anspach kicked two straight field goals within the game's first eight min­utes to give his Gen­er­als a 6-0 lead. He also tacked on four ex­tra point kicks.

Af­ter Anspach put the Gen­er­als on the score­board with his two field goals, Stur­di­vant led the Gen­er­als to their first touch­down of the evening on a fiery 60-yard run. Din­wid­die closed out the first quar­ter with a 13-0 lead.

The Gen­er­als con­tin­ued their strong start in the sec­ond quar­ter as Ky'mon Pope com­pleted a 34-yard TD pass to Stur­di­vant, putting the Gen­er­als ahead 19-0.

Stur­di­vant picked up his third touch­down of the evening on an­other ex­plo­sive run — a 45-yarder.

"Zyan keeps hav­ing great games," Mills said of Stur­di­vant, "and tonight he played an­other one."

The Gen­er­als closed out the first half with Ky'mon Pope com­plet­ing a 10-yard pass for a touch­down to sopho­more wide re­ceiver Jasiah Wil­liams.

Pope in the third quar­ter hit ClaTrey Reese on a 13-yard pass to earn his third TD of the evening and put Din­wid­die ahead 40-0.The War­riors man­aged to put 2 points on the board be­fore the game ended as Din­wid­die was un­able to get out of the end zone and gave up a safety, mak­ing the fi­nal score 40-2.

Kyle Wil­liams led Matoaca with 52 rush­ing yards on six car­ries. Jonathan Cole­man had three punts to­tal­ing 110 yards, in­clud­ing a long of 66.

Din­wid­die will aim for 7-0 when they play at Mead­ow­brook (2-4) on Fri­day, Oct. 13, 7 p.m.
