Candidates named for Football Athlete of the Week,
Voting for The Progress Index's FOOTBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK poll is now open with five candidates being named following the conclusion of Week 6.
Dominant showings continued throughout the Central District and beyond. The teams of Chester each earned shutouts as Thomas Dale routed Meadowbrook 39-0 and L.C. Bird denied Clover Hill 35-0.
Prince George fended off Petersburg 28-16, Dinwiddie trounced Matoaca 40-2 and Hopewell blew out Colonial Heights 55-6.
Due to a technical delay, the poll's closing this coming Tuesday, Oct. 10 has been pushed back from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

- Zyan Sturdivant, Dinwiddie - 15 carries/173 yards, 2 touchdowns plus a 34-yard receiving touchdown in 40-2 WIN over Matoaca
- Sean Allen, Hopewell - 5 catches/113 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 carries/20 rushing yards, touchdown in 55-6 WIN over Colonial Heights
- Marcell Canty, Prince George - 12 carries/148 rushing yards in 28-16 WIN over Petersburg
