What to know about newborn screenings

The Progress-Index Weekend - - HEALTH -

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends states screen all newborns for 34 different conditions, including cystic fibrosis, hearing loss, severe combined immuno deficiencies and sickle cell anemia.

While newborn screenings can’t diagnose a problem, they can give parents and doctors the chance to detect and address a possible problem right away — before the baby even leaves the hospital.
