Din­wid­die ad­vances to sec­ond round of play­offs

DIN­WID­DIE - Din­wid­die Foot­ball re­mains un­de­feated head­ing into the sec­ond round of the play­offs af­ter tak­ing down Huguenot 54-20.

“We saw some things we’ve got to clean up… things that we need to do a bet­ter job with,” said Din­wid­die Foot­ball head coach Billy Mills II. “Our num­ber one run­ning back is out right now, and we

should have him back next week. But, I was really proud of the way 9 (Joseph Tyree) stepped up tonight.” Mills added that the Gen­er­als’ de­fense “played lights out.”

“They did a good job,” he said. “They bent, but they didn’t break. I was proud of them.”

Blake Wil­liams led Din­wid­die’s de­fense with seven tack­les, in­clud­ing two sacks. Cirdale Lucess made an in­ter­cep­tion.

Din­wid­die quar­ter­back Ky’mon Pope rushed the ball 13 times for 136 yards and two touch­downs, and also had four passes for 105 yards and two touch­downs against two in­ter­cep­tions. Tyree had 12 car­ries for 71 yards. Sopho­more wide re­ceiver Jasiah Wil­liams made three catches for 80 yards and a touch­down and also had a rush­ing TD.

Jasiah Wil­liamsput the first set of points on the board with a nine-yard rush­ing touch­down. Af­ter Huguenot scored on a 44-yard in­ter­cep­tion re­turn, Ky’mon Pope scored two con­sec­u­tive rush­ing touch­downs of 30 yards and 1 yard.

The Gen­er­als stormed the field in the third quar­ter. A se­ries of con­sec­u­tive touch­downs was scored by four dif­fer­ent play­ers, in­clud­ing Jasiah Wil­liams, linebacker K’Vaughan Pope, run­ning back Cirdale Lucess, and wide re­ceiver Robert Bar­low re­spec­tively.

Ky’mon Pope con­nected with Jasiah Wil­liams on a 69-yard bomb, while Ky’mon’s older brother, K’Vaughan Pope, took a fum­ble re­cov­ery 15 yards to the house.

Cirdale Lucess scored on an ex­plo­sive 37-yard run, and Bar­low took a 25-yard pass from quar­ter­back Ky’mon Pope across the goal line.

In the fourth quar­ter, Huguenot placed 14 more points on the board with two touch­downs, while Din­wid­die de­fen­sive line­man and run­ning back Cody Mills com­pleted a goal line rush.

Din­wid­die (11-0) is ex­pected to host #4 Eastern View in the sec­ond round of the play­offs.
