Dinwiddie advances to second round of playoffs
DINWIDDIE - Dinwiddie Football remains undefeated heading into the second round of the playoffs after taking down Huguenot 54-20.
“We saw some things we’ve got to clean up… things that we need to do a better job with,” said Dinwiddie Football head coach Billy Mills II. “Our number one running back is out right now, and we
should have him back next week. But, I was really proud of the way 9 (Joseph Tyree) stepped up tonight.” Mills added that the Generals’ defense “played lights out.”
“They did a good job,” he said. “They bent, but they didn’t break. I was proud of them.”
Blake Williams led Dinwiddie’s defense with seven tackles, including two sacks. Cirdale Lucess made an interception.
Dinwiddie quarterback Ky’mon Pope rushed the ball 13 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and also had four passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. Tyree had 12 carries for 71 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Jasiah Williams made three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown and also had a rushing TD.
Jasiah Williamsput the first set of points on the board with a nine-yard rushing touchdown. After Huguenot scored on a 44-yard interception return, Ky’mon Pope scored two consecutive rushing touchdowns of 30 yards and 1 yard.
The Generals stormed the field in the third quarter. A series of consecutive touchdowns was scored by four different players, including Jasiah Williams, linebacker K’Vaughan Pope, running back Cirdale Lucess, and wide receiver Robert Barlow respectively.
Ky’mon Pope connected with Jasiah Williams on a 69-yard bomb, while Ky’mon’s older brother, K’Vaughan Pope, took a fumble recovery 15 yards to the house.
Cirdale Lucess scored on an explosive 37-yard run, and Barlow took a 25-yard pass from quarterback Ky’mon Pope across the goal line.
In the fourth quarter, Huguenot placed 14 more points on the board with two touchdowns, while Dinwiddie defensive lineman and running back Cody Mills completed a goal line rush.
Dinwiddie (11-0) is expected to host #4 Eastern View in the second round of the playoffs.
