Johnny Partin — the leader we need

The Progress-Index Weekend - - OPINION -

I have now received campaign literature from two of the three candidates running for the Ward 3 City Council race. I don't need to hear from our incumbent, because I have seen Tony Zevgolis, and he has accomplished nothing.

I am supporting Johnny Partin because he is a sharp, passionate, and decisive leader. Johnny Partin is a true leader; he is a Captain in the Virginia Army National Guard, small business owner, and has led multiple city committees and commissions. He does not tolerate self-serving politicians; he exposes corruption and unethical behavior, and he stands up for what is right and what is best for Hopewell!

What I also like about Johnny Partin is that he is a "go-getter". I can physically go around the city and see the improvement his dedication and leadership has had on Hopewell. The 100-plus neighborhood cleanups, Weston Circle "Keep Hopewell Beautiful" signs, and trimming and pruning the Crepe Myrtle trees around Appomattox Cemetery are physical examples of what he has done to improve Hopewell as a private citizen WITHOUT USING TAX PAYER MONEY.

I have not seen the same zeal, passion, and record of accomplishments from his opponents. Neither has fought as intensely and fiercely as Johnny, when it comes to paving roads, fixing storm drainage issues, improving our schools, and making our neighborhoods safer.

As a homeowner in this city, we need a good watch dog on City Council! We need leadership! And we need Johnny Partin as our next City Councilor for Ward 3! Jeffrey Barnard Hopewell
