The Cen­tral District teams duked it out once more with five play­ers emerg­ing as can­di­dates for Week 6's Progress-In­dex FOOT­BALL ATH­LETE OF THE WEEK hon­ors.

Din­wid­die, Hopewell, Pe­ters­burg, Prince Ge­orge and Thomas Dale are the five schools rep­re­sented in the poll.

Thomas Dale's DeAn­gelo Gray caught a 35-yard touch­down and made a goal-line de­fen­sive stop on fourth down to pre­vent a touch­down and force a turnover on downs in his Knights' 27-6 win over Mead­ow­brook.

Hopewell's Travonte Jones made eight tack­les in­clud­ing two sacks and re­turned an in­ter­cep­tion for a touch­down in his Blue Dev­ils' 49-0 win over Colo­nial Heights.

Din­wid­die's Ky'mon Pope rushed the ball 12 times for 71 yards and three touch­downs and com­pleted 11 of 21 passes for 239 yards, a fourth touch­down and no in­ter­cep­tions in his Gen­er­als' 42-13 win over Ma­toaca.

Prince Ge­orge County's Sa'Quan Har­ri­son com­pleted 16 of 31 passes for 190 yards, three touch­downs and an in­ter­cep­tion and rushed for a fourth touch­down in his Roy­als' 36-33 loss to Pe­ters­burg.

Each school, if rep­re­sented, will never have more than one can­di­date avail­able on the weekly poll, although there are no lim­its as to how of­ten a school or an ath­lete can be listed as a can­di­date through the 11 reg­u­lar sea­son weeks.

A REG­U­LAR SEA­SON FOOT­BALL ATH­LETE OF THE YEAR poll will fol­low at the end of the reg­u­lar sea­son and will open and close af­ter all seven teams’ sea­sons, in­clud­ing po­ten­tial play­off and cham­pi­onship games, come to a con­clu­sion.

Vot­ing will end Tues­day at 3 p.m. Sug­ges­tions for fu­ture nom­i­nees may be emailed Fri­day night and Sat­ur­day morn­ing to nvan­de­loecht@ progress-in­dex.com.
