PRINCE GEORGE — Longtime Deputy Clerk Teresa Holt Knott has been appointed Clerk to the Prince George Board of Supervisors.

Knott was sworn into the office on Oct. 19 during a reception in the Kines Breakroom. She had been deputy clerk to the BOS and executive assistant to the County Administrator since August 2004.

At its meeting on Oct. 9, the BOS changed the County ordinance and named Knott the clerk. County Administrator Percy Ashcraft by state statute had previously been the County clerk, but the BOS unanimously made the change upon the recommendation by Ashcraft.

“It was time,” Ashcraft said. “Teresa has handled the responsibilities of clerk since she was hired and has done a tremendous job. She does the day-to-day work of the position so she should have the title.”

Knott is a native of Prince George County and a Prince George High School graduate. She attended Old Dominion Business School and received her certification as legal administrative assistant. She is currently working on her Certification of Municipal Clerk. In addition, she attended Public Administration Municipal Clerk Institute, and recently attended the Virginia Commonwealth University Municipal Clerk Institute this fall.

Prior to her employment with Prince George County, she was a legal assistant in Richmond for 19 years; 14 years at McGuire Woods.

Knott is married to Bobby Knott and the couple has two children, Hunter 25, and Hannah 20.
