Com­mu­nity Band con­cert

PETERS­BURG — The Tri-Cities Com­mu­nity Band will present its Win­ter Con­cert on Sun­day, Jan. 22, at 3 p.m. in Lackey Hall at Christ & Grace Epis­co­pal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore St.

The 30-mem­ber en­sem­ble, un­der the di­rec­tion of Iris Schwartz, continues with its mu­si­cal tra­di­tion that be­gan 47 years ago on the cam­pus of Richard Bland Col­lege, as the RBC Com­mu­nity Wind En­sem­ble. The band un­der its new name, presents two con­certs each year at its cur­rent home, Christ & Grace Epis­co­pal Church.

The band mem­bers con­sist of mu­sic ed­u­ca­tors, pro­fes­sional mu­si­cians, re­tired mil­i­tary bands­men, as well as lawyers, re­tired teach­ers, min­is­ters, of­fice work­ers and tech­ni­cians. The ma­jor­ity of the mu­si­cians live in the TriCi­ties, as well as Rich­mond, Me­chan­icsville, Ch­ester­field, and Prince Ge­orge.

The Win­ter Con­cert will fea­ture Amer­i­can band clas­sics, marches, folk­songs, spir­i­tu­als, Broad­way fa­vorites and pa­tri­otic mu­sic.
