HELEN S. EDMONDS
Mrs. Helen Stroud Edmonds, 89, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Vista Park Assisted Living Memory Care Neighborhood in Petersburg, Va. A native of Orange County, she was born on November 4, 1927. Helen was one of ten children born to John and Melissa Johnson Stroud. She enjoyed life with her nine siblings. She is preceded in death by Jennie, Ida, Jack, Howard, Albert, Julius and Jerry.
On June 19, 1949, she married the love of her life Robert I. Edmonds. Theirs was the first wedding ceremony that Dr. J.P. Manley performed at First Baptist Church. To that union two daughters were born, Gail Edmonds Bailey Wilson (Alton deceased) of Fairburn, Ga., and Janet Edmonds Crawley (Thomas) of Chester, Va.
Helen joined First Baptist Church during her early years of residency in Chapel Hill, NC. As a dedicated and faithful member of First Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Missionary Circle and the Willing Workers.
She attended Orange County Training School. Several years later, she joined the faculty and staff of Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center until her retirement.
Helen lived in the Northside Community since 1968 among great neighbors and friends. Her love of flowers was exemplified inside and outside of her home. Helen always greeted her guest with a warm welcome as they enjoyed her company and a good home cooked meal.
She leaves to cherish her loving spirit and memory, two daughters, Gail Edmonds Bailey Wilson, (Alton-Deceased); and Janet Edmonds Crawley (Thomas); two sisters, Isabelle Rogers and Naomi Watson; three granddaughters, Kiesha Rose Bryant (Douglas), Jasmine Bailey and Lauren Bailey; one grandson, Ishmael Wilson; four great grandchildren, Khloe Bryant, Douglas Bryant, Azaria Mathis and Arnami White; three sisters-in-law, Nellie Stroud, Lois Boone, and Ethel Barrett; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Helen S. Edmonds will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 106 N. Roberson Street, Chapel Hill, NC. Interment to following at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, Chapel Hill, NC.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the funeral services at church.
