Mrs. Helen Stroud Edmonds, 89, en­tered eter­nal rest on Satur­day, Jan­uary 7, 2017, at the Vista Park As­sisted Liv­ing Mem­ory Care Neigh­bor­hood in Peters­burg, Va. A na­tive of Orange County, she was born on Novem­ber 4, 1927. Helen was one of ten chil­dren born to John and Melissa John­son Stroud. She en­joyed life with her nine sib­lings. She is pre­ceded in death by Jen­nie, Ida, Jack, Howard, Al­bert, Julius and Jerry.

On June 19, 1949, she mar­ried the love of her life Robert I. Edmonds. Theirs was the first wed­ding cer­e­mony that Dr. J.P. Man­ley per­formed at First Bap­tist Church. To that union two daugh­ters were born, Gail Edmonds Bai­ley Wil­son (Al­ton de­ceased) of Fair­burn, Ga., and Janet Edmonds Craw­ley (Thomas) of Ch­ester, Va.

Helen joined First Bap­tist Church dur­ing her early years of res­i­dency in Chapel Hill, NC. As a ded­i­cated and faith­ful mem­ber of First Bap­tist Church, she served as a Sun­day School Teacher, a mem­ber of the Mis­sion­ary Cir­cle and the Will­ing Work­ers.

She at­tended Orange County Train­ing School. Sev­eral years later, she joined the fac­ulty and staff of Frank Porter Gra­ham Child De­vel­op­ment Cen­ter un­til her re­tire­ment.

Helen lived in the North­side Com­mu­nity since 1968 among great neigh­bors and friends. Her love of flow­ers was ex­em­pli­fied in­side and out­side of her home. Helen al­ways greeted her guest with a warm welcome as they en­joyed her com­pany and a good home cooked meal.

She leaves to cher­ish her lov­ing spirit and mem­ory, two daugh­ters, Gail Edmonds Bai­ley Wil­son, (Al­ton-De­ceased); and Janet Edmonds Craw­ley (Thomas); two sis­ters, Is­abelle Rogers and Naomi Watson; three grand­daugh­ters, Kiesha Rose Bryant (Dou­glas), Jas­mine Bai­ley and Lau­ren Bai­ley; one grand­son, Ish­mael Wil­son; four great grand­chil­dren, Khloe Bryant, Dou­glas Bryant, Azaria Mathis and Ar­nami White; three sis­ters-in-law, Nel­lie Stroud, Lois Boone, and Ethel Bar­rett; and a host of other rel­a­tives and friends.

Ser­vices for Mrs. Helen S. Edmonds will be held at 11:30 a.m. Fri­day, Jan­uary 13, 2017, at First Bap­tist Church, 106 N. Rober­son Street, Chapel Hill, NC. In­ter­ment to fol­low­ing at Chapel Hill Me­mo­rial Ceme­tery, Chapel Hill, NC.

The fam­ily will re­ceive friends thirty min­utes prior to the fu­neral ser­vices at church.

In lieu of flo­ral ar­range­ments mon­e­tary do­na­tions may be made to First Bap­tist Church, Sun­day School, 106 N. Rober­son Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 in mem­ory of Helen S. Edmonds.
