Parental obe­sity linked to de­lays

Ac­cord­ing to re­searchers at the Na­tional In­sti­tutes of Health, chil­dren of obese moth­ers were more likely to fail tests of fine mo­tor skills, and chil­dren of obese fa­thers were more likely to fail mea­sures of so­cial com­pe­tence. Chil­dren born to obese couples were also found to be more likely to fail tests of prob­lem solv­ing abil­ity. Re­searchers said that obe­sity dur­ing preg­nancy in an­i­mal stud­ies could pro­mote in­flam­ma­tion, which could af­fect the fe­tal brain.
