Tax-Aide of­fices open Feb. 1

Richmond-Tri-City area Tax-Aide of­fices will open Feb. 1, of­fer­ing free tax prepa­ra­tion ser­vices for Richmond area res­i­dents, in­clud­ing the Tri-City area, with spe­cial at­ten­tion to older, low-in­come tax­pay­ers.

Tax-Aide sites serv­ing the Tri-City area, are lo­cated at the fol­low­ing times and lo­ca­tions:

■ Good­will-Peters­burg, 65 Crater Cir­cle, Peters­burg, Tues­days and Wed­nes­days, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Ap­point­ments can be made by call­ing the Peters­burg Good­will at 804-451-1772.

■ St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 17111 Jeff Davis High­way, South Ch­ester­field, Mon­days and Fri­days, 12–4 p.m., Wed­nes­days, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tax­pay­ers will re­ceive help on a walkin ba­sis, first-come, first served. For in­for­ma­tion, call 804-526-2548 dur­ing Tax-Aide op­er­a­tional hours.

The of­fi­cial tax-fil­ing dead­line this year is April 18, but some Tax-Aide sites may close be­fore April 18. Check with the spe­cific site for its last day of ser­vice.

Tax-Aide, the na­tion’s largest free, vol­un­teer­run tax as­sis­tance ser­vice, staffs nine lo­ca­tions in the metro Richmond area. The Tax-Aide pro­gram, spon­sored by the AARP Foun­da­tion and the In­ter­nal Rev­enue Ser­vice, be­gan in 1968 in re­sponse to the need of se­nior cit­i­zens for free, qual­ity as­sis­tance in fil­ing their in­come tax re­turns.

In Vir­ginia, Tax-Aide as­sisted ap­prox­i­mately 90,000 peo­ple with their 2015 tax re­turns, help­ing these Vir­gini­ans ob­tain $45 mil­lion in re­funds and $8 mil­lion in child tax cred­its, mak­ing Vir­ginia Tax -Aide the third largest pro­gram in the U.S.
