Tax-Aide offices open Feb. 1
Richmond-Tri-City area Tax-Aide offices will open Feb. 1, offering free tax preparation services for Richmond area residents, including the Tri-City area, with special attention to older, low-income taxpayers.
Tax-Aide sites serving the Tri-City area, are located at the following times and locations:
■ Goodwill-Petersburg, 65 Crater Circle, Petersburg, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the Petersburg Goodwill at 804-451-1772.
■ St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 17111 Jeff Davis Highway, South Chesterfield, Mondays and Fridays, 12–4 p.m., Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Taxpayers will receive help on a walkin basis, first-come, first served. For information, call 804-526-2548 during Tax-Aide operational hours.
The official tax-filing deadline this year is April 18, but some Tax-Aide sites may close before April 18. Check with the specific site for its last day of service.
Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteerrun tax assistance service, staffs nine locations in the metro Richmond area. The Tax-Aide program, sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service, began in 1968 in response to the need of senior citizens for free, quality assistance in filing their income tax returns.
In Virginia, Tax-Aide assisted approximately 90,000 people with their 2015 tax returns, helping these Virginians obtain $45 million in refunds and $8 million in child tax credits, making Virginia Tax -Aide the third largest program in the U.S.
