A Royal stunner in PG
Stevens, Hopkins lead home team past Blue Devils
PRINCE GEORGE - In one of the biggest surprises in the 2016-17 season thus far, Prince George Girls Basketball pulled away from their rival Hopewell to clinch a 46-41 stunner of a victory at home. The Royals are now 8-3 while the Blue Devils are 10-3.
It was Hopewell’s first loss of the season to a VHSL team in its 2016-17 campaign. The Blue Devils earlier in the year had beaten Prince George twice.
Taylor Stevens led the Royals with 18 points, followed by a big performance from Lilli Hopkins with 15.
The Royals led the first quarter 8-2, but Hopewell narrowly outdueled Prince George in the second to draw within two possessions’ reach as the Royals stayed in the lead at halftime, 14-10.
Hopewell then took over in the third on their best quarter of the night a 21-point effort - to lead Prince George 31-26. But the Royals saved their best for last, out-pacing Hopewell 20-10 in the fourth to sweep on by and seal up the win.
Tyjana Simmons led the Blue Devils with 15 points. Tyah Hunter netted 10.
