Ber­nice “Yay” Brown (77) of Lew Jones Road, Rawl­ings, Va., tran­si­tioned into eter­nal rest on Mon­day, Septem­ber 11, 2017, in the VCU Com­mu­nity Memo­rial Health Cen­ter in South Hill, Va. Mrs. Brown was born on Fe­bru­ary 17, 1940, in Din­wid­die, Va., to the late Wil­liam “Billy” Win­field and Sadie Gil­liam Win­field. Mrs. Brown was ed­u­cated in the Din­wid­die County Pub­lic School Sys­tem. She was em­ployed with Keller Alu­minum in McKen­ney, Va., for sev­eral years. As her health de­clined in her later years she be­came a ded­i­cated house­wife and mother.

At an early age Ber­nice ac­cepted Christ and be­came a mem­ber of the Hick­ory Run Bap­tist church. Be­sides her par­ents she was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Charles E. Brown; three brothers, Char­lie Win­field, Sr., Isham Win­field and Clarence Win­field; four sis­ters, Vir­ginia Lewis, Julie Ann Win­field, Max­ine Win­field John­son Rhodes and Genevia Win­field Per­rear.

Left to cher­ish her fond mem­o­ries are her son, Marvin G. Brown (Michelle) of Peters­burg, Va., two grand­chil­dren, Ja­mal and Shanell Brown of Peters­burg, Va.; one de­voted sis­ter, Mary F. Jack­son (An­drew) of Rawl­ings, Va.; three sis­ters-in-law, Mil­dred Win­field of McKen­ney, Va., Gertrude Win­field of Dewitt, Va., Nancy Bishop of New­port News, Va.; one brother-in-law, Ge­orge Lee Brown (Doris) of South Bend, Ind.; and a host of nieces, neph­ews, cousins and friends; de­voted neph­ews, Her­bert Lee Win­field of South Hill and Bruce Win­field of Dewitt; spe­cial fam­ily friend, Mrs. Josephine Camp­bell of Rawl­ings.

Fu­neral ser­vices will be held on Satur­day, Septem­ber 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. from the Hick­ory Run Bap­tist Church, Rawl­ings, Va. The pas­tor, Rev. James Walker, will of­fi­ci­ate and Rev.
